Humphrey Wanjugi also suggests that acceptance of the GMO food is tied to education and cites the US adoption of biotech in foods as different from the suspicions of the poor uneducated people of Kenya when in fact most Americans have no clue they eat the GMO foods and the success of biotech has been through a decade of silence by American media and lack of informed choice by American consumers.

This is an unscientific bit of PR for Monsanto that suggests quite a few points that are untrue. Humphrey Wanjugi states there is no difference between consuming the GMO form and traditional; this is misleading at best since altering genes does cause unexpected changes and until it is tested for human health affects to claim it is safe is irresponsible and misinformed.

Humphrey Wanjugi also suggests the choice to use GMO is for a better yields, but that is not what the current GMO varieties deliver, they allow for greater chemical use for weed and pest management. That's suited to industrial agriculture, not a small plot of mixed plantings.

Selling future potential to solve current problems with GMO crops has gone on for more than a decade. People starving due to drought are also desperately in need of clean water and pouring Monsanto's Roundup onto the wheat is only and answer for feeding the hungry titans of Wall Street.

To suggest this is an informative report from an acaqdemic nstitution diminishes the University when it's nothing more than PR spin for the Biotech Brigade with not a bit of imperical data to substantiate the claims. This is worse then Pamela Ronals out selling her GMO rice project as a success when in reality it's a MAS-marker assisted selection not the GMO crops under debate.

Shame on the corporate a$$ kissers at UC for insulting the intelligence of the public and betraying the mandate of educating in favor of pimping for corporate funding.

This is a breakthrough research. Well, Humphrey things are not so bad in Kenya. The president has signed the GMO Act paving way for pilot GMO maize planting in Kenya. KARI is doing a pilot project. Just as you have said people need top be fed with the right information. Perhaps it's the high time you booked an online interview with a local daily. Humphrey truly another great Kenyan!
